2. Motorcycle Clubs in South Africa: Find Your Riding Group
A practical guide to finding local riding friends, clubs and communities.

A practical guide to finding local riding friends, clubs and communities.

Whether you ride every day, enjoy a Sunday breakfast run, head off road on weekends, or simply want to meet people who share your interest in motorcycles, there are riding groups across South Africa to suit different bikes, interests and ways of riding.

This guide helps you find a starting point. It is an independent directory based on publicly available information, not an official register or endorsement of any club. Group activities, contacts and membership requirements can change, so check directly with the group before attending.

Start with the kind of riding you enjoy

Not every riding group is a traditional motorcycle club. Some are built around a motorcycle brand, others around a type of riding, a shared cause or simply the enjoyment of getting out on the road together.

If you are looking for…

Start with…

Social rides, breakfast runs and people to ride with

Adventure rides and gravel roads

Brand and motorcycle-owner groups

If you already own a particular make of motorcycle, an owner group can be a straightforward way to meet other riders. Some groups organise public rides or events; others are primarily for members. Check the specific group’s current arrangements before joining a ride.

BMW Clubs Africa / BMW Motorrad clubs: BMW motorcycle clubs are listed across several regions, including Cape, Pretoria, Central, Eastern Cape, Garden Route, Inland, KwaZulu Natal, Lowveld and West Rand. BMW Motorrad Club Cape advertises breakfast rides that may be open to non members and riders on other brands, as well as off road training. Confirm the ride or training details directly.

Ducati Official Club South Africa: The Ducati Official Club South Africa has a Johannesburg group and a Cape Town club listing. Its public information describes regular breakfast rides and organised activities. See docsa.club for current details.

Harley-Davidson owner groups: Harley Davidson owners can look for local H.O.G. chapters or the Harley Davidson Club of South Africa. Chapter arrangements and participation requirements vary.

Italian Motorcycle Owners Club (IMOC): A Cape Town based community for owners and fans of Italian motorcycles. The club is associated with the origins of the Toy Run. Check its current public channels for activities.

TVS Apache Owners Group: TVS Apache owners can look for the South African owner group through TVS South Africa.

Wing Riders SA: A Goldwing touring community with Cape Town and Pretoria presence. Check the group’s current channels for rides and events.

Steelwings MC: A Harley focused club that also promotes charitable activities. Contact the club directly to learn about local chapters and participation.

5. Motorcycle Clubs in South Africa: Find Your Riding Group
There are a lot of informal Adventure Riding groups on social media.

Adventure, touring and off road riding

Adventure riding groups are not always easy to find through public websites. Many operate through brand clubs, local social groups or private online communities. Ask a nearby dealer or an established riding group whether they know of a local ride suitable for your experience and motorcycle.

Publicly listed examples in the source material include BMW Motorrad Club Pretoria, which reported an Adventure Muddy Puddle Ride, and BMW Motorrad Club Cape, which advertises off road training. Ducati owners can also enquire through the Ducati Official Club South Africa. Also look up Facebook Groups like Proudly Meerkat, Western Cape Dual Sport Adventure, Small bike Adventures ZA, Garden Route Adventure Biking etc.

For motocross, enduro and hard enduro, start with Motorsport South Africa (MSA) and the relevant championship or club calendar. The South African National Enduro Championship lists clubs and events, including Rover Motorcycle Club in Gqeberha and CSMX Club in Grabouw, Lowveld Enduro, GXCC, Inland MX etc. The national hard enduro calendar is another starting point.

Rover Motorcycle Club: Schoenmakerskop, Gqeberha. A motocross and enduro club with a clubhouse and public club activities. Check its current schedule before visiting.

CSMX Club: Grabouw, Western Cape. Listed in connection with national enduro events.

IMPI Hard Enduro: Northern Drakensberg. A multi-day hard-enduro event; check the organiser’s current event information.

Roof of Africa: Lesotho. A well known hard enduro event. Check the current event site and championship information for dates and entry details.

Special Interest rides and groups are generally hosted by Motorcycle brands and/or dealerships.

Track days, superbikes and supermoto

For riding on a circuit, look first at circuit calendars and track day organisers rather than assuming there is a single club for every discipline. Gauteng riders may want to check Red Star Raceway near Delmas, Kyalami in Midrand and Zwartkops near Pretoria. Killarney is a major circuit in Cape Town.

The Ducati Official Club South Africa describes organised track activities, while BMW Motorrad Club Cape advertises rider training, Honda Wing SA also has their monthly Brunch Cruise at Zwartkops and the ZX10CUP is one of the longest running series in South Africa…. And maybe even in the world. Confirm dates, entry requirements, motorcycle eligibility and safety rules with the organiser.

We could not confirm a dedicated, currently active public directory for supermoto or stunt riding groups other than Jungle Rush on Facebook. If you organise one, send its public contact details so it can be considered for a future update.

Charity, women’s, faith based and community riding

Toy Run. The Toy Run is a familiar motorcycle community charity event supporting children in need. It is held in different locations around South Africa, commonly towards the end of November. Confirm the local date, venue and donation requirements with the organisers.

Women’s riding. Lady Bikers SA has organised International Female Ride Day activities in South Africa. Local women’s riding groups and women’s classes in organised competition may also provide ways to connect. Check current local announcements.

Faith based groups. Examples identified in public information include the Christian Motorcyclists Association (CMA), Disciple Christian MC, Soldiers For Jesus MC, Bikers United MC and Yeshua Nation. Contact each organisation directly to understand its activities and membership approach.

Community and service clubs. Some motorcycle groups organise food parcel drives, blanket collections, soup kitchen support or assistance for veterans. Public examples include Dogs of War MCC, Hell Razor MCC, Desert Wolves MCC and Tribal Cats MCC. Check the group’s own channels for current projects.

Inclusive networks. Sapa Yopa MCC in Limpopo and RAMBO (Rainbow Mzansi Bikers Organisation) are examples of groups that publicly describe a focus on unity or inclusivity. Confirm their current local activities and contact arrangements.

How to approach a club or riding group

Different groups have different expectations. A public breakfast ride or charity event may be open to visitors, while a traditional motorcycle club may have a formal process for prospective members. Do not assume every group is open to walk-ins.

1.      Choose a group that fits the kind of riding and community you are looking for.

2.      Check its official public page for a ride, meeting or event that welcomes visitors.

3.      If the group has a formal structure, ask a relevant council or club contact how to make an introduction.

4.      Explain what you ride, where you are based and what you are hoping to find.

5.      Ask about membership, ride pace, route, safety requirements and any costs before committing.

6.      Respect the group’s rules, property and club colours. Never wear another club’s colours without permission.

Do not turn up uninvited at a private clubhouse or assume that a club’s public event means its private activities are open to everyone.
